Overview
These linking number rods are a useful tool for teaching basic number concepts. Each rod is centimeter-length based on the number it represents. For example, the pink 7 rod below shows seven 1cm squares on the top. These can link together to teach/learn basic addition/subtraction and counting concepts. By color coding the lengths, children can begin to think of numbers as entities and not simply counts of 1s (i.e., a 5 is the same as five 1s and vice versa).
MakerSpace Files
Linking number rods will need to be 3D printed. Below are estimates for the amount of material, along with recommended color schemes. The estimated costs are conservative estimates and you may be able to find less expensive filament.

When printing these, it’s important to note that the “connectors” on these linking rods have an overhang. In 3D printing, this requires a support. These files include a support for each rod (they do not need them to be added in the slicer). After printing, they will need to be either broken off by hand, or (preferrably) clipped off with a flush cutter or similar tool for such small cuts.
